Kollu Rasam

Kollu is nothing but Horse Gram. It is beneficial in cough breathing problem due to phlegm, hiccups, stones and fever. It also eliminates germs and worms. It causes impurities of bile and blood. It also causes inflammation and checks sweating.


 
Ingredients

½ cup horse gram
1 tomato
1 cup tamarind juice
1 tbsp pepper corn
1 tsp cumin seeds
4 garlic cloves
¼ tsp turmeric powder
A pinch of asafotida
½ tsp mustard seeds
½ tsp urad dal
4 red chillies
Salt to taste
Curry leaves, cilantro, oil

Method

Ø  Wash and soak horse gram for at least 6 hours. Pressure cook for 3 whistles. Strain the water and keep aside.
Ø  Pulse peppercorn, cumin seeds and garlic. Don’t add water.
Ø  Heat oil in a pan, add mustard, urad dal, red chillies and curry leaves one by one. Add asafetida, tomato and fry well. Add turmeric powder while sauté.
Ø  Add tamarind juice, horse gram water and pepper mixture and salt.
Ø  When it ready to boil (just before boiling point) switch off and add cilantro.
